Caregivers of adults with disabilities at Evergreen Supported Living in Bellingham ratified a new two-year contract, including higher wages and changes to training.
Under the new contract, employees earned a 3% raise, additional 3% anniversary raises, more health care coverage and a seventh step on the wage scale, among other benefits. With the 3% raise, the new starting wage is $21.75/hour, but wages range up to $25.98/hour, depending on experience.
“This union contract will provide competitive wages, and a voice at the table when it comes to decisions that affect our work and the quality of care we can provide,” Bryce Squires, an Evergreen employee, said in a statement.
The caregivers, represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 775, currently care for eight clients. Evergreen comprises 21 unionized caregivers.
