Nursing Home workers fight for the wages, benefits, and respect we deserve

August 2, 2024 Update

Workers are eager to get to the bargaining table with Nursing Home employers and demand the pay, benefits, and respect we deserve. Bargaining for our 2024-2026 contracts with Avamere, Hyatt, and Avalon (formerly some Avamere facilities) facilities are all scheduled to begin this month! Other employers will begin bargaining soon as well.

Together we will fight for our Nursing Home priorities:

  • Wage raises, including a starting wage of at least $24 an hour for CNAs.
  • Affordable, quality healthcare.
  • Premium pay for picking up shifts.
  • Better Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • Holding employers accountable to not interfere with our right to organize.
  • Improved language on successorship when a Nursing Home changes ownership.

Join our Contract Action Team: Nursing Home leaders from across Washington met on July 31 and are forming Contract Action Teams at all our facilities. Contract Action Teams help prepare our co-workers to be ready to quickly take action when needed to support our bargaining teams — making sure our co-workers are informed on our priorities, stay up to date on our progress, and stay united. Talk to your organizer or someone on your bargaining team if you’re interested in joining our Contract Action Team.

We are the frontline of our healthcare system! Winning wage raises, affordable, quality healthcare, and more will improve our lives, attract new people to our profession, and ensure the best care for our residents.

Together we can win the pay, benefits, and protections that we deserve.

July 8, 2024 Update

Nursing Home workers across WA are preparing to fight for the wages and benefits that we deserve! Winning our priorities will help make long-term care a good career and improve care for our residents. Leaders from 26 Nursing Home facilities in Washington came together at our Nursing Home Leadership Summit and committed to our top priorities for our upcoming bargaining season. Our priorities are:

  • Wage raises, including a starting wage of at least $24 an hour for CNAs
  • Affordable, quality healthcare
  • Premium pay for picking up shifts
  • Better Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Holding employers accountable to not interfere with our right to organize
  • Improved language on successorship when a Nursing Home changes ownership

Please add your voice and make sure Nursing Home workers go into bargaining strong by signing our petition at work.

Nursing home workers from across Washington show their solidarity.

Nursing Home workers are joining together
to fight for the wages and benefits we deserve.

At our Nursing Home Leadership Summit, member leaders talked about the common issues we face and discussed the results of our recent bargaining survey that went to all Nursing Home members. Together we decided on our strong bargaining priorities, which we’ll fight for at upcoming employer bargaining and also at the 2025 Washington Legislature.

We are called heroes, but many of us struggle to make ends meet and go without affordable, quality healthcare. Low pay and the stress of short staffing drives good workers from these critical jobs. It’s time for us to finally be paid and treated as essential frontline healthcare workers!

Together we can win change for ourselves, our residents, and our families. Please add your name to our petition and help us win what we deserve.
