Hundreds of union members, educators and caregivers rallied on the steps of the state Capitol on Tuesday, urging lawmakers to tax the state’s wealthiest residents and warning that schools and public services could face deep cuts without new revenue.

The “Rally for Revenue,” organized by SEIU 775 alongside the Washington Federation of State Employees, the Washington Education Association and the Washington State Labor Council, drew government-funded workers from across the state as lawmakers debate how to address budget shortfalls during the current legislative session.

Demonstrators waved handmade signs reading “Raise revenue, fund our schools,” “Progressive revenue now,” and “No cuts to protect the rich,” while chants echoed across the Capitol grounds under clear skies: “Two, four, six, eight — tax the rich and fund our state.”
